How To Improve Shooting Skills
Watching girl's basketball especially the local league is simple not one of my deepest interest. It is often hard to watch a game that is simply not exciting. As a point guard of my basketball team, I often watch in disbelief why my other team mates have low scoring attempts than I am when in fact they are as skilled as me. It is sometimes very hard to really find excitement whenever I watch girl's basketball; it bores me to see how they can't even take a shot when no one is really guarding them. Personally, in my experience as a team player, I never hesitate scoring especially when I know that I could do it and very much especially when no one is guarding me or has been given a shooting opportunity. Although of course, when compared to guy's basketball, girl's basketball is relatively lower in shooting percentage. However, with the right techniques and right moves, this could improve significantly.
One thing that I find a common mistake I notice in girl's basketball is hesitation. If you have been given the chance and opportunity to take a shot, do not hesitate. Hesitation to shoot is certainly the quickest way of not being able to shoot that ball. You have to have the right attitude, mental condition and focus for you to be able to score. Scoring does matter in basketball. You can never take advantage if you do not take the risk of shooting the ball. It is just as simple as that. Otherwise, you probably do not belong into the basketball court. Along with many other skills, you can improve your scoring percentage. Never say "never" and never say you can't do it because to tell you, those who quit even before they tried doing the task surely did not arrive to anywhere.
Train yourself if you can't afford to be a part of a sports clinic. It is by training extra hard that you can only achieve what you really want to achieve and there is no other easy way than that. I have met many girls who come to me and tell me my secret of being able to shoot well within the paint or outside the paint and they gasp at me in disbelief if I tell them that they can shoot well too. They often believe I was born to be a natural shooter well perhaps it really is but that is not all there is to it. I show them why by allowing them to shoot and shoot and shoot. The rest of the skills are going to be learned as we go along. I would be dismayed at how they would tell me that they really can't when in fact they could. They just do not know how to focus. Being negative in the first place will surely let them down that easily so I tell them to focus on the ball and on the hoop and shoot. It is just as simple as that.
